We Must Let Go Of The Life We Have Planned
“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” ~Joseph Cambell
For years I had this saying on a beautiful tile on my dining room wall. I bought it for myself when I purchased my first home.
Up until that point, I hadn’t really ever thought about living my life as any way other than the way my parents lived. They married young, had two kids and a dog, both had good-paying careers with benefits, pensions, and longevity, a home in a nice neighborhood, two nice cars. From the outside, it was a typical middle-class lifestyle. Nothing wrong with that.
The problem for me was that I hadn’t met Mr. Wonderful, didn’t have a typical 9-5 job (nor did I want to), liked working from home and for myself, didn’t want kids, had two dogs, disliked the city I lived in, and wanted to travel. My mother was a nervous wreck over me!! haha
The life I had planned (and thought I wanted) went down the tubes a couple of years prior and I was in the process of recreating myself. I had a clean slate.
So what did MY ideal life look like?
Since I didn’t know, I decided to go with the flow of the Universe and trust what came. And what came was completely unconventional, unique, and utterly perfect for me!!! The life I’ve led since that time has been magical, unexpected, and so exciting!! It’s even better than the life I imagined for myself!
It’s no coincidence that this quote came to me and graced the walls of my first two homes during this time of reinvention! I let go and allowed the life waiting for me to arrive. And what a life it’s been!
What plan can you release to make room for something even better?
